About

Adrienne MasonAfter completing a science degree, it was clear that a life in the lab was not for me. Sure, I knew that I enjoyed science, but I loved talking, reading, and writing about it more. Communications seemed a perfect fit and I began working with Parks Canada in Jasper National Park. For more than a decade, I worked as an interpreter or educator for a variety of employers, including Parks Canada, the Bamfield Marine Station (now the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre), Bluewater Adventures, and West Island College.

During these years I also began to hone my skills as a writer and editor, which eventually became my full-time career. My first book, The Green Classroom, was published in 1991 and I’ve since published more than 30 titles. I write for both adults and children, most often on topics of science, nature, and history.

I combine my experiences as an educator and writer with a solid science and history bent to offer services to clients as a writer, editor, project manager, and researcher. My work is diverse, from creating a storyline and overall concept for a new interpretive centre to writing the management plan for a wildlife management area to researching the history of Long Beach to writing and editing science textbooks and editing at the children’s science magazine KNOW and the adult science magazine Hakai Magazine. My particular passions include marine science, the natural and cultural history of the Pacific Northwest, and horticulture/gardening.
